Cody "Pueo" Pata’s widely anticipated debut CD, E Ho’i Na Wai, was recorded in Haiku, Maui and features Pueo’s rich, compelling vocals and impeccable ukulele playing. There are 12 songs: eight fresh renditions of traditional favorites and four insightful, well-written original compositions. The CD also opens and closes with original
kahiko chants.
Highlights include `Imi Ku`u Hoku Lano performed in waltz time with a building vocal arrangement, a lovely rendition of Moanalua, a musical duet with just ukulele and upright bass supporting Pueo’s trademark vocal and harmony arrangement, and the fast paced and spirited `Ula Noweo, an ancient chant put to music with a superb, driving steel guitar by Dwight Tokumoto.
